What is the difference between vacuum glass and insulating glass? The performance of insulating glass is very different. The name of insulating glass is "hollow". In fact, it is not empty. There is "gas" between the two layers of glass. In most cases, the "gas" is air, and the better quality is argon. Because the gas cannot be seen by the naked eye, it is said to be "empty".

Vacuum glass is to draw a "vacuum" between two layers of glass. Basically, there is no gas and it is really empty.

Why can thermos keep warm for a long time? Because there is a vacuum layer between the inner and outer walls of the inner tank, which effectively blocks the conduction of heat. Vacuum glass is to seal around two pieces of flat glass, leave a gap in the middle, draw the gap into vacuum and seal the exhaust hole. The inner surfaces of the two pieces of glass are plated with one or two layers of transparent low radiation film. The thermos bottle liner consists of two layers of glass shells inside and outside to form a cavity. The cavity is vacuumed and silver is plated in the cavity. Vacuum glass is equivalent to making the thermos into a flat type. Some people jokingly say that the vacuum glass window is actually "making the thermos on the window".

If the thermos at home leaks, it will not be insulated, which can reflect the difference between the insulation performance with and without air.

Data show that the thermal insulation performance of vacuum glass is 2 to 3 times better than that of insulating glass, more than 6 times better than that of ordinary single glass, and much better than that of ordinary walls.

Another feature of vacuum glass is that it is much thinner than insulating glass, which can save installation space and window frame materials. At the same time, due to its good thermal insulation performance, its anti condensation and fog performance is also very good, which can avoid the annoying things such as invisible exterior scenery and dew soaking windowsill caused by condensation and fog on the window. Winter can reduce the feeling of chilly in front of the window and the feeling of "surface wind" under your feet.

In addition to good thermal insulation performance, the sound insulation performance of vacuum glass is also better than that of insulating glass.

The wind pressure strength of vacuum glass is about twice that of insulating glass made of the same glass, but the impact strength is not as good as insulating glass. This weakness can be solved by combining vacuum glass. For example, where necessary, laminated glass technology can be used to add tempered glass on one or both sides of the vacuum glass to form a safety vacuum glass with high impact strength and wind pressure strength. Undoubtedly, the cost will increase accordingly.

In recent years, insulating glass is the most widely used new building in China. Insulating glass is also known as "today's glass" with a sense of the times.

Compared with insulating glass, vacuum glass started late. At present, vacuum glass is still in the early stage in terms of the maturity and scale of industrialization technology. However, due to its strong comprehensive performance advantages over insulating glass, its development prospect is very bright. With the expansion of production scale and technological progress, the price will also fall sharply. Several years later, vacuum glass is likely to replace insulating glass and become the mainstream product of energy-saving glass, which can be said to be "glass of tomorrow".
